Felting

Felting knitted work opens the door to a very wide variety of ideas. There are two pictures showcasing felted work in the gallery of other designers later in this chapter. This process is good for a project where more structure is required, like a bag. Knitting first in entrelac gives a vehicle to create intricate and interesting pattern. This then being felted, either by hand or in a machine, gives a stronger structure to the finished piece. If you want to felt your work, remember to use only woollen yarns. Also remember that the work will significantly shrink, so it is advisable to work a test swatch first, to see how much to allow for shrinkage.
